Rustic storage jar

Everyday-life ware, hefty, warm and rustic in energy. Thickly potted earthenware with calligraphy on upper, dun-colored body (Chinese characters read, "42, Mr. Kawaguchi"), and brown painted base. Acquired in Karatsu, but ubiquitous to many regions. 7-1/4" (18.125 cm) diameter, 9-1/2" (23.75 cm) high. Timelessly utilitarian, probably 19th Century.
