Chinese pottery jar, Neolithic Period (Yangshao, 3000 – 1599 B.C.). Two applied strap handles under a gently everted rim, with finely painted red-brown and black geometric shapes, decorate the low-fired earthenware exterior. The interior rim has a painted,m abstract design in maroon and black stripes, and lines (a rare feature). Remarkable condition considering age; preserved as burial artifact. 5-5/8” diameter at widest. 2-3/6” diameter at base. 3-1/8” high. Similar piece displayed May, 2014 Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.
