Very rare earthen vase by Makuzu Kozan, Namban-te style. Design reflects Chinese influence; with ears in shape of ebi (shrimp). The exterior with plain earthen ware finish atop reddish iron glaze at base. The interior is completely covered in black glaze. The vase has seal mark of "Makuzu" on bottom. Wooden box of Kiri wood containing script of "Kabin" (flower vase) on lid and "Namban I, Ebi mimi" (Nambun style with shrimp ears) and signature "Makuzu Kozan Saku". Excellent condition, without damage or flaws. 9-5/8" (24 cm) high, 8-15/16" diameter (21 cm). Showa 1-15 (1926 - 1941).
